Tuesday evening, more than 100 musicians, including former members of the Composers Big Band of Diane Moser as well as members of Mark Dresser & Friends, played at Tierney’s Tavern to honor Moser – the pianist and conductor who has long been a fixture on the Montclair music scene and beyond.

The concert was initiated by Miki Orr Hatcher of West Caldwell, a classical violist and close friend of the late musician. He raised funds for the Dizzy Gillespie Memorial Fund, who helped pay some of Moser’s medical bills when she fell ill; the fund supports jazz musicians who are uninsured or underinsured.

Moser died of cancer and other illnesses late last year. A memorial was held on Zoom in January 2021, but plans for a concert had to be postponed due to COVID-19.

See photos of Shane Paul Neil from the concert, who also celebrated what would have been Moser’s 64th birthday on July 29, below.
